The Showdown: CP vs. KI (Part 2)

By Jonathan | October 23, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Why Cedar Point is better than Kings Island

Magnum XL 2000

Magnum XL 2000

#2: Location
Cedar Point is located on the Cedar Point peninsula in beautiful Sandusky, OH. Oftentimes referred to as America’s Roller Coast ®, many rides have a scenic view of Lake Erie (ex. Maverick, Aerial view, Top Thrill Dragster). While Lake Erie alone isn’t anything to write home about, there’s something special about riding the Magnum at dusk. The ride features a pretzel-like twist about halfway through that offers a spectacular view of the sun setting down below the lake. Experiencing this while on the ride is simply and utterly amazing; something that no water feature at Kings Island could ever offer. The Magnum has certainly lost it’s place among the latest and greatest record-setting coasters at Cedar Point and elsewhere across the World, but this ride is surely a classic. A classic that I won’t soon forget.

Remember when we rode it in a torrential downpour?

We looked like a group of drowned rats…

Isn’t there something to the drive up to cedar point? Meandering through quiet Sandusky Ohio, then you catch a glimpse of a coaster through the trees. You continue to drive along, merging on the causeway and everything gets bigger and bigger.
This series should really be called “Why Jon Lepolt loves Cedar Point but will go to Kings Island because it is closer to his giant house” or something like that.

I haven’t been to either in awhile, but I do have to concede that Cedar point is better than Kings Island. It is tough to compete with KI’s blue ice cream though!
